Why this business was started

After seeing the copious amounts of waste in the apparel industry, I wanted to work a different way and create a brand that put people, planet and purpose first. With all the chaos in the production and selling of fashion, I wanted to create a brand where every decision is filtered through the lens of calm: “Is the decision/garment/process creating chaos for the planet and the people in it, or is it creating calm?” I wanted to build a brand that demonstrated that beautiful apparel can be made domestically, profitably, and sustainably.

The reason of selling this business

I have the opportunity to work on a sustainability project with an enormous, global impact. The project will demand an incredible amount of time and energy so it is appropriate that I hand the brand to someone who has the time to scale a sustainable, luxury business.

With a minimal digital ad spend, we have created a proven brand that is primed for exponential growth. Our large email list, social following, YoY growth of 335%, AOV of $375.00, a 95%+ sell through rate at regular price, and hundreds of 5 star reviews were achieved on an average monthly digital ad spend of just $2500/month. With 7 - 30X ROAS, there is massive upside potential with digital marketing. Strategic placement with key wholesale accounts at some of the world's finest luxury stores (both online and offline) has built credibility and visibility for the brand as well as an additional revenue stream outside of DTC.     The ideal buyer is someone with existing knowledge of the fashion/product development space, and/or an organization looking to layer a sustainable, inclusive brand into its portfolio. A buyer with an existing e-commerce, marketing and fulfillment infrastructure could easily grow ocean+main by maximizing the economies of scale. With certifications from leading sustainability organizations, the brand voice, ethos and design sensibility are well established. The business will need someone with a design and product development background to oversee garment production. A sustainability-driven creative director with great design and art direction skills will help maintain the brand’s aesthetic and integrity. It will also require an e-commerce director to oversee site management including shipping/logistics, and, either a freelance team or agency to manage all marketing efforts including email, digital marketing and social media.
